adolescent & TEEN Therapy
Because being a kid can be hard.
Adolescent development is a complex period. The brain and body are experiencing shifts that can be difficult to understand and cope with, both for your child and as parents. This period of time involves no shortage of challenges; be it related to identity development, processing stressful experiences, mental and emotional regulation, or relationship difficulties at home and school, and therapy can be a wonderful opportunity for your child to experience a non-judgemental, safe space to explore their inner world and build their capacity to navigate life stressors. With over 10 years of experience supporting children and families, I bring both my passion for understanding young people and my ability to offer competent and collaborative care to your child and family.
What We’ll Explore Together
Identity Development
This is a safe space for your teen to explore and develop their sense of self.Processing Stress or Trauma
I help your teen to process past or current experiences of stress and trauma through talk, play, and connection.
Emotional Regulation
Therapy can help to develop a set of tools that empower young people to respond to distressing or difficult situations with more ease and self-control.Relationship Dynamics
Your teen has the opportunity to explore their relationships at home, school, and in the community, and discover their needs and boundaries.
How It Works
During our 50-minute sessions, I’ll support your child in exploring and befriending their inner world through talk, art, play, and experiential mindfulness interventions — depending on what best suits the need of each individual child. I use a model called ACT (acceptance and commitment therapy) to support teens in understanding that their thoughts are just thoughts, creating a little space between them and their mind, and increasing their ability to flexibly respond to anxiety and stress in new ways. I work from an attachment frame, meaning I pay special attention to and leverage parent-child relationships to support emotional and mental regulation, and establish or maintain healthy structure and boundaries. I strongly encourage parents to be apart of treatment at a cadence that feels most supportive to your child and family, so you’re all able to practice and implement what is being learned in therapy at home.
